Climate

Henan maintains a warm and sometimes humid temperature.  The climate is dry and windy during the spring and winter, and hot and rainy during the summer time (especially in the south).  With summer having its heavy rainy season, it is best to visit Henan during the fall where strong, beautiful sunlight beams throughout the province.

There are two main railways that run throughout Henan:  the Jingguang Railway (from Beijing to Guangzhou) and the Longhai Railway (from Lianyungang to Lanzhou), both crossing at Zhengzhou.  Additional railways and expressways are also available for ease of transportation.  Passengers are able to book tickets up to 10 days in advance.

The main airport of Henan is Xinzheng International Airport (CGO).  Other transportation options are the Long Distance Bus and the City Bus.  Tip:  Prepare the correct bus fare (1 RMB) before boarding the bus for change is not available once on the bus!  Taxi is also another convenient form of transportation with a fare starting at 8 RMB for the first 3 km and an additional 1.2 RMB for every km thereafter.

About Henan

Located in the eastern central part of China, Henan is one of the birthplaces for Chinese civilization.  It is now China's most populated province in terms of residency with an approximate population of 10 million people.  If Henan was its own country, it would be the 12th most populous country in the world!

Meaning "South of the (Yellow) River", Henan is rich in ancient culture and China's historical significance.  Also referred to its one-character abbreviation Yù (which is derived from the name Yuzhou Province,  Henan's historical cities of Luoyang and Kaifeng served long terms as the capital city for multiple dynasties - greatly contributing to the first half of China's long history.  In fact, the first Chinese Dynasty was located in the center of Henan.  Henan suits all of its nicknames including Zhōngyuán  - "central plains" - and Zhōngzhōu meaning "midland" or "middle kingdom".  Zhengzhou is the province's capital.
