Save the Tiger, Save the Whale, Save the Panda. These phrases have been around for decades. And while they're all important, one animal seems to get an unfair amount of attention…if for nothing else than being the logo of the World Wildlife Fund. If you guessed it's the giant panda, you're right. It might not be a threat to animals in terms of predation, but it's a huge threat to other animals going extinct that need financial resources. So is it worth saving? And why do so many Chinese people care? Susan Tart is in Shanghai with the answer, where she's visiting one of the many campaigns to Save the Panda.

Death Penalty Laws

According to Amnesty International, more than two-thirds of the world’s countries have abolished the death penalty in law or in practice. But while capital punishment remains a controversial issue throughout the world- China has continued carrying out the practice in estimated record numbers. But now- a potential revision of the country’s criminal law may see the first reduction in the number of crimes carrying the death penalty since the law was enacted in 1979. The country, however, does sometimes find itself on the receiving end of similar exchanges, the most recent one having been brought to a culmination in the city of Hangzhou.
